The first smart home was completed in 2021 in Falmouth on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and the second smart home will be in nearby Centerville.

Snap One worked with local integration firm Extreme Audio & Video to manage the design and installation of all the new electronics and systems. The home features an outdoor TV made by SunBrite and an Episode outdoor speaker system.

The Control4 system and Lutron lighting switches allowed Extreme Audio & Video to upgrade guests’ control, including adding a master button that can turn all the lights off at night, so they don’t have to walk around checking each room. It also enabled the placement of new wireless light switches in hallways. Select areas including the kitchen and master bedroom also have wall-mounted touch panels that offer lighting and climate control.

The OvrC remote system management allows Extreme Audio & Video to view equipment status, change settings and reset devices all from their smartphones. This allows them to ensure the wireless access points function properly.

Tim O’Connell, founder of Tommy’s place, worked closely with donors, contractors, artists and manufacturers to secure financial contributions, as well as donations of time and products, to transform a 650-sq metre19th-century inn into a 21st-century holiday home.

Mike Astin, owner of Extreme Audio & Video, said: “Buildings of this age can present major obstacles such as outdated electrical wiring and variable construction materials, but we were able to overcome them using modern wireless technologies including the Control4 smart home system, Access Networks networking equipment and a Lutron smart lighting solution. It’s always great to be able to give back to the communities we work with and live in, and to know that we played a role in lifting spirits and creating memories for families working through unimaginable circumstances.”
